Leath Named Director of Center for Health Literacy

Katie Leath, MPH, MA, was named director of the Center for Health Literacy, effective July 1. She succeeded Alison Caballero, MPH, CHES, who retired at the end of June following nearly seven years at UAMS, including the last the past almost four years as CHL director.

Leath has worked at the Center for Health Literacy for seven years, leading the writing team. She has been at UAMS for almost 13 years. Prior to joining the Center she worked in various roles at the Arkansas Center for Health Improvement.

“Our Center has a great team who are focused on using their plain language expertise to make make health information easier to read, understand, and use in ways that will have a positive impact on individual and population health,” Leath said, “I’m excited to take on this new role and lead this team.”

She earned a bachelor’s degree in marketing with a minor in graphic design from the University of Central Arkansas. She graduated with honors from UAMS with a Master of Public Health degree and from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock with a master’s degree in applied communication studies.
