Office of Continuing Education Reports More CE Activities in 2022-2023 Academic Year

The UAMS Office of Continuing Education (OCE) concluded another academic year with some impressive data, with a busier 2022-2023 than the previous year.

The number of activities that provided continuing education (CE) and continuing medical education (CME) credits demonstrates the UAMS community’s commitment to Vision 2029 to provide high-quality educational updates for meeting the needs of Arkansas’s healthcare workforce. Continuing education credits were awarded to 11,109 learners from 37 states and Canada. Live activities were held in eight states with one based in Austria.

“We had a modest increase in our regularly scheduled series activities, compared to the 2021 academic year. To put that into context, an RSS application represents a series of activities, most of which meet weekly. Therefore, the increase represents about 1,000 additional sessions to review for compliance.” said Lea Mabry, M.Ed., director of the Office of Continuing Education.

The OCE is accredited with commendation through Joint Accreditation™ for Interprofessional Continuing Education and accredits three types of activities:

  • Regularly Scheduled Series (RSS) are live activities planned as a series with multiple, ongoing sessions, e.g., offered weekly, monthly, or quarterly. It is planned primarily for the organization’s professional staff and generally targets the same audience throughout the whole series. Examples include Grand Rounds, Case Conferences and Journal Clubs.
  • Live Activities are activities where the learner participates in real-time, whether in-person, through videoconferencing, or a combination of the two.
  • Enduring Materials are on-demand activities with no specific time or location designated for participation; rather, the participant determines whether and when to complete the activity. The content can be accessed at any point during the lifespan of the activity, and there is no specific time designated for participation. Examples include online interactive educational modules, recorded presentations, printed materials, and podcasts.

The OCE’s accreditation provides CE/CME credits for seven different health care professions. They are physicians (ACCME), nurses (ANCC), pharmacists and pharmacy technicians (ACPE), physician assistants (AAPA), dietitians (CDR), and athletic trainers (BOC).

The UAMS OCE stats for the academic year:
