Slagell Joins UAMS as Library Director

Jeff Slagell, MA, joined UAMS on Aug. 1 as the new director of the UAMS Library.

Slagell previously served as dean of library services at Roberts-LaForge Library at Delta State University in Cleveland, Mississippi. In that role since 2005, he supervised a staff of 25 plus about 30 student assistants while overseeing the  Roberts-LaForge Library, Capps Archives and Museum, and Instructional Resources Center. He has more than 30 years’ experience in the library profession.

“He has a rich history of service to the library profession with experience in interdisciplinary and academic libraries,” said Kathryn Neill, PharmD, FNAP, CCMS, associate provost for academics.

He earned a master’s degree in information resources and library Science from the University of Arizona. He also has a master’s degree in communications from the University of Miami, Florida.

Neill also expressed gratitude to the members of the Library Director Search Committees (Jay Gandy, Ph.D., Kristen Sterba, Ph.D., Pilar Murphy, Pharm.D., MPH, BCACP, Alison Caballero, MPH, CHES, Libby Ingram, MSIS, Susan Steelman, MLIS, AHIP, Neil Masangkay, M.D., MS, Lindsey Sward, M.D., Jerry Ware, Ph.D., and Ben Amick, Ph.D.) as well as the our UAMS Executive Search Group team of Robert Moore, Kristen Reynolds and Susan Dietz.

She also acknowledged Libby Ingram who served as Interim Director since January 2022. “Libby and the other members of the library team have ensured we experienced no interruptions in their high-quality service throughout this search process, and that the UAMS Library remains a center of excellence that is so important to the success of our faculty and students,” Neill said.
