Start of Semester Keeps ESSC Team Busy
The start of the new academic year is always a busy and exciting time for the UAMS Educational and Student Success Center (ESSC) with team members busy meeting new students, giving presentations about ESSC services and speaking at new student orientation sessions.
ESSC staff presented at various orientations and workshops, such as the Graduate School New Student Orientation, to promote the services the center provides to assist with student success. Marjoree Harper, MA, learning specialist and instructor in the ESSC, Tim Muren, MA, MLIS, Writing Center head and instructor in the ESSC, and Helen Hu, Ph.D., associate professor and ESSC director, presented three workshops to the GPIBS program students on topics including: Organization and Time Management, Introduction to Writing Center, and Learning Strategies and Professionalism in the PhD program.
Jasna Vuk, M.D, Ph.D., associate professor and a learning specialist in the ESSC, presents to medical students during the College of Medicine pre-matriculation program on July 24.
Hu also gave presentations at the College of Public Health orientation on Aug. 9 and at the College of Pharmacy orientation on Aug. 7. Jasna Vuk, M.D, Ph.D., associate professor and a learning specialist in the ESSC, gave a presentation titled “Managing time and creating your own study schedule: Why it is important in medical school?” to students in the College of Medicine pre-matriculation program MedEdReady on July 24.
Marybeth Norcross, MS.Ed., assistant professor and ESSC teaching and learning specialist, conducted an orientation for students in the College of Health Professions’ Diagnostic Medical Sonography program and spoke to CHP Respiratory Care students on Wednesday, Aug. 16, followed by a learning lab for those students on Aug. 21.
